Slide number footer, with total amount of slides, If you're starting from a blank presentation..
- On the slide master - shrink the footer box so it's small enough for just 2 letters
- Go to your first slide and insert the 'Slide Number' text object .
- Duplicate your first slide (so now you have 2 total), make the duplicated slide blank and increase the size of the text in 'Slide Number' to a large size, like half the size of the slide height.
- Drag this (last) slide onto the first slide. In its icon you'll see the slide number on white. Shrink the slide icon down so the text in the icon matches the size of the text in your footer
- Put the word 'of' or '/' in your footer text and position the 'Slide Number' object, footer and Last Slide icons as desired.
- Just duplicate your first slide for any new slides you wish to add, the slide count updates automatically. You can also hide the last slide so you don't see it - but sadly that makes your total slide count wrong. I did say it was a hack!
